1940s Hats History - 20 Popular Women。This is a very elegant brown felt tilt hat from the fashionable 40\'s. The crown is tall and cylindrical, and concave at the top. The short brim is covered with yellow feathers at the front and tapers down towards the back. Three paler yellow feather quills with small diamond shaped feather ends emerge from underneath the brim feathers at one side and project towards the back. There is a narrow band made into a bow at the back. To hold the hat in a tilted position there is a back cap at the back, plus a hat pin and an elastic band is attached to the inside. There is also a brown half veil to complete the look.
Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, an extended cap, or a combination of these. 30s Fashion certainly seemed fussier than the 1920s with its relentless ornaments of bows, trims and frills.
There is no designer label, indicating it was a custom-made creation.
