The shoe\'s silhouette ultimately originates in Norway. In the early 1930s, Norwegian shoemaker Nils Gregoriusson Tveranger designed a slip-on shoe inspired by local cattle farming footwear and indigenous styles. American travelers noticed these comfortable \"slipper-type moccasins\" being worn by Norwegian fishermen.
? G.H. BASS Adapts the Design (1936)
In 1936, G.H. BASS adapted this European design for the American market, naming it the Weejun as a playful nod to its Norwegian roots. They added a distinctive leather strip across the bridge (the saddle) featuring a sharp cutout. This cutout perfectly fit a one-cent coin, which Ivy League students in the 1950s began inserting into payphone emergency calls, creating the \"Penny Loafer\".

Within the Weejuns lineup, the Larson is defined by its distinct \"beefroll\" design. This refers to the heavy, raised stitching on either side of the saddle strap that resembles a rolled roast tied with twine. It contrasts with the sleek, stitched-flat look of the brand\'s other flagship loafer.
