An exquisite piece of fashion history! This stunning tilt/cocktail hat was designed by prominent mid-century American milliner Roberta Bernays (whose work is represented in The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s permanent collection). Craftsmanship begins with a premium, plush black velour felt body imported from the renowned “Opera” house in Italy, expertly blocked and hand-finished in the USA. Designer: Original Roberta Bernays Materials: Premium Italian \"Opera\" wool felt / velour body, smooth satin crown band Accents: Dramatic, iridescent sweeping black feather plume trim Style: Mid-century tilt hat / cocktail hat / pillbox hybrid Era: Late 1940s to 1950s Country of Origin: Hat body made in Italy; hand-finished in the USA Inner Opening Diameter: 6 inches Inner Circumference: Approx. 18.8 inches Note on Fit: This is a classic structured \"perch\" or \"tilt\" hat meant to sit elegantly on top or to the side of the crown. It does not pull down like a modern beanie. It can be easily secured with a hatpin, hair combs, or a hidden elastic band. ? Condition Excellent vintage condition! The black velour body is rich in color with no bald spots or structural crushing Inner foil stamp and woven designer label are crisp and legible. The feather plume remains beautifully intact and dramatic. Truly a museum-quality collector\'s piece Vintage 1950s, 50s Fashion, 1940s, 40s Era, Roberta Bernays, Italian Opera, True Vintage, Millinery, Mid Century Modern, Old Hollywood Glamour, Rockabilly
